Event details
About the event
Join the Wardens for a late evening walk on Greenham Common to witness the strange and wonderful night time antics of the elusive and enigmatic nightjar birds. As it gets dark the birds wake up and begin their courtship displays – churring, wing clapping and ‘gwipping’. We can’t guarantee that we will see/hear them but we stand a very good chance.
Bring torches and binoculars!
Open to all, but participants must be able to keep quiet so as not to disturb these birds. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult, dogs are not allowed.
There will be a short (10-15 minute) walk from Pyle Hill carpark to the heath along gravel paths.
Meeting point:Â Greenham Common Pyle Hill Carpark, Burys Bank Road, Greenham (what3words ///chew.press.chips)
It can be muddy if raining a day or two beforehand, in which case waterproof footwear such as boots or wellies are advised.
