A wildlife-friendly garden doesn’t have to be an untidy, untamed rewilded jungle! Far from it. Gardens designed with nature in mind can also be beautiful to behold and a joy to relax and spend time in. Just look at our Wilder Spaces garden that won a Gold medal, Best In Show, Best Construction and People’s Choice Award at RHS Malvern this year!

What Consultancy services do we offer?

  • Wildlife garden design: bespoke garden design services ranging from a brief walkover of your garden with verbal advice, to a full design, create, build, plant and maintenance service, for a space that’s perfect for people and wildlife to live in harmony.

  • Garden transformations: we partner with leading garden designers to offer a complete design and build service for your garden or land. Future Nature can provide the expertise on including wildlife-friendly habitats and planting, at the heart of the garden’s design.

  • Public & private green spaces design: a professional service for architects, landscape architects, garden designers, environmentally-aware developers, business parks, local authorities, health and welfare facilities, and commercial companies. We support all organisations who want to do more to protect nature, enhance biodiversity and reconnect their residents, staff and visitors with beautiful green spaces, for their health and well-being. Future Nature can assist with assessments of land and comprehensive proposals for its enhancement and long-term after-care.

  • Biodiversity enhancement plans: an assessment of the ecology of your site and a comprehensive plan to enhance the biodiversity through habitat creation, planting schemes and changes to maintenance practices.

  • Ecological assessments: survey options vary from a ‘snapshot’ of the wildlife in a single visit, up to a detailed assessment from at least two visits to your land by one of our trained ecologists.

  • Habitat creation: design only or design and build options for individual wildlife habitats such as ponds, woodland glades, structures, hedgerows, native planting schemes for pollinators and larval food plants, wildflower meadows, bat roosts, deadwood features, living roofs and walls, niche structures for invertebrates like solitary bees, and many more ideas to make your space a mosaic of wildlife habitats.

  • Plant selection: expert advice on the selection of diverse and suitable plants to be used in the design of your wildlife garden according to aspect, soil type, habit, value for wildlife, and seasonal interest for a beautiful garden all year round.

  • Aftercare services:  Future Nature can provide aftercare services for gardens and green spaces, focussed on habitat and species management. Services include seasonal planting advice to enhance biodiversity, ecological monitoring surveys and habitat management works. Please note that routine maintenance services such as lawn mowing and hedge trimming are not provided, as our specialist services are specifically dedicated to enhancing habitats for wildlife.

  • Habitat creation, restoration and management planning services: expert assistance in maximising the wildlife value of your space, including habitat creation for immediate results using brownfield techniques, restoration of ponds or other features to enhance their wildlife value, or longer-term planning for less intensive, more sustainable maintenance regimes in the years to come.

Why choose Future Nature WTC?

Our team consists of trusted professionals with a variety of expertise and experience, in-house and partners, coming together to provide a comprehensive understanding of how to fulfil your garden desires. Future Nature WTC is Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust’s wholly-owned Ecological Consultancy, and all profits from our services are gifted back to the Trust. In hiring us you will also be supporting the Trust’s invaluable work in communities, schools and the countryside.

Where and what we cover

We are local to Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, however, please get in touch if you are in a neighbouring region and we will see if we can help. We can assist with a wide scale of projects and embrace a complex challenge, including rural, suburban, city centre and brownfield sites.

The process

The standard process from your enquiry is to arrange an initial chat over the phone or online video call, followed by a free site visit and brief consultation if necessary. Depending upon the client brief and the nature of the site, whether a private or communal garden, public space or commercial site, we then prepare a quotation for our recommended options, working with our specialist garden design or landscape partners where necessary. The proposals will detail any desk-based research, survey visit/s, design process, estimated programme of works and maintenance regime. Once you accept our quotation and confirm your instructions, we can proceed with project initiation and delivery.

Terms and conditions apply, and we will confirm these, timescales and costs within our fee proposal.
