Memorandum of understanding

BBOWT commits to:

  • Providing trained staff to deliver training and outdoor learning sessions as agreed in advance (subject to unforeseen circumstances).
  • Providing school staff with session plans, including risk assessments, before each session.
  • Ensuring groups receive timetables, risk assessments and site details in advance of their visit to a BBOWT site.
  • Assessing sessions in the light of feedback and striving to improve them in accordance with groups’ needs.

What we expect from a Wilder School:

  • A key school contact for the duration of the project.
  • A desire to embed outdoor learning into the curriculum, with a commitment to upskill staff to be able to deliver this.
  • A commitment to working in partnership with your local Wildlife Trust staff member to ensure the successful delivery of the project, including providing photographs for use by BBOWT on the BBOWT website and/or social media channels.
  • A willingness to develop the biodiversity of the school grounds with nature and students in mind.
  • An enthusiasm to empower children by involving them in the planning and progression of biodiversity within the school grounds.
  • A commitment to teacher training opportunities (a minimum of one teacher from each year group to attend teacher training) and continuing the work beyond BBOWT's involvement.
  • For Heads and senior leaders to ensure information about the Wilder Schools programme is disseminated across the school community.
