Case study: Ned's Three Peaks Challenge

Ned took on the Three Peaks Challenge in 2018 and raised over £430 for BBOWT.

"I decided earlier in the year that I was going to try my and at a challenge in aid of charity. There are so many different ways to do this now that I thought it would be important to choose a challenge which I would not only enjoy but also to it in aid of a charity which meant something to me.”

Between 2016 and 2017 I completed a traineeship at BBOWT and as such I had an understanding of how they worked and where the funds I raised would go to. I felt that by doing this I would be able to give back to an organisation that has helped me so much with training and development for the career I wish to go into.”

One of the hardest parts of the whole challenge for me was fundraising. One of the best pieces of advice I could give would be know beforehand who you’re going to be asking to help you towards your goal. Whether this is friends, family, work colleagues or anyone else. Once you know this you can set a realistic goal for yourself.”

How do I send you the money I have raised?

There are several ways you can send us the funds you raise! Take a look at our paying in guide for all the details on how to get your money to us.

How do I know that you have received the money I sent?

We like to acknowledge all fundraisers with a personalised thank you letter, so this should arrive a few weeks after sending your funds in. If you would like confirmation that your funds have reached us before you receive your thank you letter, please email us at fundraising@bbowt.org.uk, making sure to include the amount raised and date sent to us, and we will check this for you.

How do I claim Gift Aid on the money I raise?

As a registered charity, BBOWT is allowed to claim back an extra 25p on every £1 donation to us in gift aid. For us to be able to claim gift aid you need to check that the donator or sponsor is a UK tax payer, record their home address, postcode and donation amount and make sure that they tick the correct box on your sponsorship form. Download a copy of our sponsorship form.

Do you have any tools, materials, or posters that I can use to make my event a success?

Yes! We have plenty of materials available for download – take a look at them here. If you can’t see something you are looking for, please get in touch and we will be happy to help!

Can I use your logo to promote my fundraiser?

We are usually happy to let you use our logo with permission, so please get in touch if you would like to!

Can you help promote my event?

We are often able to share details of fundraising events on social media, and can offer some help with promotion, so please do let us know what you have planned! Remember to tag us @BBOWT in all your posts on social media.

How do I explain to people what the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust does?

The Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust works to give wildlife a helping hand across the three counties. This includes monitoring species and running projects to support declining species such as water voles, and threatened habitats such as chalk grassland.

We look after more than 80 nature reserves spanning more than 2,500 hectares. Our nature reserves are central to our work to secure a better future for wildlife.

To find out more, take a look at our About page.

How do I fundraise online?

There are a range of sites available for you to use, in order to raise funds online. We recommend Virgin Money Giving, though you are welcome to use whichever platform you prefer.

How will the money I raise be used?

All the money you raise will go towards our vital work throughout our three counties, enabling our conservation, preservation, and education work to continue. The funds you raise will be ‘unrestricted’ which means that you are not restricting what project your donations are spent on, so the money you raise can be put towards important projects that we really need it for.
