Family activity: how to be a nature detective

Sarah and Claire show us how to lay a trail around your garden or green space and discover amazing wildlife!

You might think you know what’s living in your garden, but have you looked really carefully? Who knows what you might find when you become a nature detective!

Don’t forget to get an adult to help you, and remember to wash your hands when you’ve finished your adventure.

The most important things you need to become a nature detective are your senses – use your eyes, ears, nose and hands!

Apart from that you don’t need much, but here are some things that might be useful:

  • Pens or pencils and paper for making drawings and notes
  • A container for the things you find
  • Nature spotter sheets or books
  • A magnifying glass
  • Binoculars
