Family activity: how to make a butterfly print

Anna shows us how to make a beautiful symmetrical butterfly print, and tells us all about butterflies!

There are 59 species of butterfly in the UK, and each one has a different pattern on its wings. Their patterns are symmetrical, which means the pattern on the left wing is the mirror image of the pattern on the right!

Anna shows us how to make a beautiful symmetrical butterfly print using poster paints in this video. You could even add antennae made of twigs, and a pattern of dry leaves for the underside of the wings.

You could use this spotter sheet to get ideas for the patterns on your print. What kinds of butterfly can you spot in your local area?
