KS3 Home Educators' Day: Water Quality Assessment - Sutton Courtenay, Wednesday 4 November
About the event
This is an opportunity for home educated young people working at KS3 level to participate in group fieldwork on the nature reserve. Sessions run bimonthly with different topics covered each month. This month we'll be conducting a water quality survey, investigating the health of our stream. Activities will include measuring pH and turbidity, identifying invertebrate indicator species and calculating a stream health index. We'll also have a go at setting up our own water filtration systems and discuss the role of nature in providing us with safe water supplies. Please remember to bring your wellies so you can walk into the stream!
There are always choices of activity and the option to step back and take a break when needed. Please let us know at booking if there are any reasonable adjustments we can make to help your child access the session. All young people must have a responsible adult who stays with them throughout the session. Please share this event with your home educating community!
Activities will be outdoors - please come dressed for the weather. You're welcome to bring a picnic and stay on for lunch after the session. Picnic benches are available.
Please note the centre is accessible by public transport with regular buses (including connection to Didcot Parkway railway station) serving Milton Park, a few minutes walk from the centre.
