Woolley Firs Environmental Education Centre opens

The Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire the Hon Mrs Mary Bayliss opens the Woolley Firs Environmental Education Centre, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead Cllr Colin Rayner, children from St Luke’s Primary School, Maidenhead, with Philippa Lyons, Hugh Mellor, Kate Dent and Lynn Hughes from the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust.

Thousands of Berkshire school children are getting hands-on with local wildlife at the Woolley Firs Environmental Education Centre, which was formally opened on 19 April.

The Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust has created a hands-on activity centre in a Grade 2 listed stable block, and outside on the 300 year-old Woolley Firs farm in Cherry Garden Lane, Maidenhead.

The new centre gives school children who might never normally get close to nature, especially those from Reading, Slough, Bracknell and High Wycombe, exciting opportunities to experience nature at first hand, learn about local wildlife, and take home truly inspiring and memorable experiences that only a trip outside the classroom can do. Children from St Luke’s Primary School, Maidenhead helped the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire open the education centre and then had fun playing a Buzzy Bee game.
