Global climate change is probably the biggest long-term challenge to UK biodiversity. But in the short-term, habitat fragmentation and development pose the greatest threats to wildlife in Berks, Bucks and Oxon.
The Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust is working across the three counties by:
Much of our work is led by Biodiversity Action Plans (BAPs). These are the UK’s response to the international Convention on Biological Diversity, widely known as the Rio Earth Summit, held in 1992, to halt the decline of species on a global scale. Biodiversity Action Plans assess the state of habitats in the UK. Some species, such as the water vole, also have Action Plans when they do not fit into specific habitats. Local Biodiversity Action Plans (LBAPs) were drawn up to guide work at a local scale. For further information visit the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire or Oxfordshire LBAP websites.
