Event details

Sat, 11/11/2017 - 10:00am - 4:00pm

Come and enjoy a creative Wild Writing Workshop with columnist and author Nicola Chester. The workshop is suitable for those who'd like to have a go at writing or those who already write but would like to hone their skills.

Nicola has been a professional, published Nature Writer for over a decade with long running columns in the Newbury Weekly News and the RSPB's Nature's Home magazine. She is passionate about wildlife and words and believes contact with nature can enliven anyone's writing in any situation. Her work can be seen online here: nicolachester.wordpress.com

The workshop is suitable for adults and older children that are accompanied by an adult.

Late autumn and early winter are atmospheric seasons, full of sensory mnemonic and meaning. We will explore how connecting with and interpreting the natural world can shine a little light on what it is to be wild - and what it is to be human as the days shorten.

Some of the morning will be spent exploring the environment around the Nature Discovery Centre, learning to use and translate your senses into images and words on the page.

Back in the Centre you'll discuss and investigate what Nature Writing is before starting some fun writing warm up exercises and games.  After lunch, suitably inspired and refreshed, you will write and edit, learning how to make every word count and every image have impact for your reader. The aim at the end of the day is a finished piece of Nature Writing to be proud of!

Please bring whatever you are comfortable writing with, pen and paper, notebook or laptop some writing will take place outside, so please dress for the weather and bring binoculars and ID book if you have them.

The fee for the workshop includes tuition, refreshments throughout the day,  a lovely homemade lunch and cake with your tea in the afternoon.

When 'none available' is shown above, the event/time slot/ticket type is fully booked.

From time to time BBOWT will send you information about how we are helping local willdife via email, mail or by phone. If you do not wish to be contacted in future please let BBOWT know.
