Dancersend Nature Reserve

Nestling within two sheltered valleys deep in the Chilterns in east Bucks, this wonderfully rich nature reserve is made up of mixed woodlands and chalk grassland.

Best time to visit: throughout the year, especially spring and summer.

Reserve management:

Woodland:
  • maintaining wide rides – sheltered sunny corridors favoured by plants and insects
  • coppicing and thinning trees to ensure structural suitability for wild flowers, birds and insects
Chalk grassland:
  • grazing with Hebridean sheep from autumn to early spring to maintain low soil fertility
  • removing scrub to prevent succession to woodland
